Wronged? Opinions please.
How does one prevent this from happening? Just returned from the ACBL
NAOP regional pairs. Playing in A bracket.
You have the following collection: AK865 T52 52 AT3 - V vs NV, You are
West, North deals...
Auction goes:
(1C) 2C* (2S) P;
(3S)** P (3N) and it is our bid.
*2C was alerted and no explanation was requested by RHO.
**LHO does however request an explanation prior to his 3S bid and is
told that 2C is natural
I chose to double 3N expecting them to run to 4S which I planned on
doubling as well. So the auction proceeds
(3S) P (3N) X;
(4H) P (P) ??
at which point I ask for an explanation for what was happening. LHO
asks RHO to leave the table and explains that he [LHO] has figured out
that despite NOT asking what 2C meant, RHO is likely bidding 2S as a
cuebid because he [RHO] assumed that 2C was Michaels, not natural. I
call the director because had I known that 2S was a cuebid, I would
not have doubled 3N but let them play it. Director ruled that the
auction stood.
4H was off 2tricks, 3N would have been off 3tricks for a top [we take
first seven tricks]. Director ruled that no UI passed between the
opponents and that they both followed their systemic understanding
over MIchaels and a natural overcall [albeit each partner was on a
different page], and that LHO was allowed to wake up based on MY
bidding.
I was wronged because RHO did NOT clarify our alert, made an
assumption, bamboozled the table until his partner figured it out from
MY bid AFTER it was too late for me to retract my bid.
I can't see any way for redress. Rub of the green?
