Post a link to the unaltered image so we can see what you are trying to do.
Background is important
Have you used the "Quick select" tool to make the selection you are
trying to extract, and then used the "refine edge" from the "Select"
menu.
By adjusting the selection edge and adjusting the pixel size &
feathering a bit you should be able to make a clean extraction.
