Ok and thanks. I'm hoping there is 'a way' rather than it not seeing
the trackpad fully / properly (as I've often had with Linux in the
past).

N/p and thanks for bothering to reply. ;-)
Unfortunately this sort of thing is something I've come to accept from
Linux. I'd have a PC running Windows, install Linux dual boot and then
cross my fingers that the bits that don't work OOTB and that I can't
get working aren't important things. Sometimes that is the case
(internal modems or TV outputs) but often it IS important stuff like
Trackpads, card readers, webcams, WiFi etc etc.
As with trying Mint 10 and U11.10 on my mates big Acer touch screen
PC. Mint 10 booted from the LiveCD but didn't see the Wifi adaptor.
U11.10 saw the WiFi card and connected to the router but has Unity.
Either bight be fixable when properly installed but many wouldn't take
that step.
That said it is getting there though (looking at it as an alternative
OS across a wide range of 'non selected' hardware. Well, if it wasn't
for the likes of Unity etc).
