11.10: menubar clock just says "Time"


Since upgrading to 11.10, something is wrong with the time display in the 

menu bar. Instead of displaying the time, I just see the work "Time". I 

tried creating a brand new account and it has the same problem. When I go 

to Time & Date Settings..., I see the correct time at the bottom, and if 

I go to the Clock tab, "Show a clock in the menu bar" is checked.
