Hi Gordon,
When you log on, before you enter your password, click on the cog shaped
icon in the top right hand corner of the "Log in" window and you can
select which desktop you wish to use from there. If you don't log in on
start up (auto log in) then just log out and you will be taken to the
Log in dialogue. Subsequent start ups should take you into your new
default desktop.
