Fonts problem


I have a considerable number of Truetype fonts in in my /home directory 

in .fonts, in the /usr/local/share/fonts/truetype and in the /usr/share/

fonts/truetype directory. I'm not sure why they are in more than one 

directory or how they got there.

The problem is that none of my installed apps (Gimp, Inkscape, Libre 

Office,etc.) can see or use these TTF fonts. Do I need to delete all of 

them from these 3 directories and then reinstall to a specific directory?
